Extraordinary Things Happen When You Look Into the Language Environment of a Child

LENA Core Reports

LENA Pro contains five core Reports: Child Vocalizations, Adult Words, Conversational Turns, Audio Environment, and Composite View. Each report can be viewed in 5-minute, hourly, daily, or monthly timelines.

Conversational Turns Report

This report provides a count of the total number of conversational interactions the child engages in with an adult. A Conversational Turn is a vocal sound such as a coo, squeal, babble, or word initiated by a child with a subsequent response by an adult within five seconds, or vice versa. Reports are available in monthly, daily, hourly, or five-minute time segments. Overlapping speech segments, coughs, cries, and other vegetative and fixed signals do not contribute to the Conversational Turns count. Percentile ranks for recordings of 10 hours or longer are provided. If a possible language delay is suspected, the purple connector dots will turn yellow in the daily report.
